As part of my ongoing learning this year, I have signed up to Twitter. I will use this as a platform to learn new, integration of technology in Education and to input new ideas to my own pedagogy and innovation. I am following a number of Physical Educators from across the world and also, tweeters who specialise in technology in education.
A post that I recently read was titled “The Technology Revolution in Physical Education.” The author of this post shares about how technology can revolutionise PE . An app that I learned about in this blog post was called “Team Shake.” This app allows you to randomly select teams in PE. As a result of reading this blog, I downloaded a similar app called “Team Pick.” This allows me to randomly select teams instantly without previous traditional methods of picking “Captains” which can be humiliating and degrading to students with lesser abilities. I have loaded all my classes onto the app and I am able to select the number of groups/teams that I need. I am also able to rate students on their ability and create mixed-ability groups which is more inclusive of different abilities.
As a part of the intro to Health for Junior and Senior classes this year, I asked the students to create a “Who Am I?” task. This included a pepeha and their cultural, spiritual and personal beliefs.
Tabloid Sports Day on During Tabloids Sports on Friday the 26th of February proved to be an opportunity to develop positive relationships with teaching colleagues and students.
I continued developing professional relationships with other Staff members at Orewa College throughout the day and, while being based at my event station. My task at Tabloids was to run the Sack Race Event with another Staff member. At our event we collaborated and shared giving instructions to the different Year groups that arrived including instructions and demonstrations. At this event I was also able to positive interact with the teachers that were in charge of the different year groups rotating through the events. During the day I shared excitement with the other teachers in Blake House particularly, in the end of day relays.
While at the sack race I was also able to encourage students who I knew from my Form Class and Health/PE classes. I encouraged my Year 9 Form Class to represent the Blake House well and encouraged them to dress-up and get involved with the day positively.

Appraisel Notes – 24 Feb. 16 ……Jo Kennedy
Jo is enjoying working in the department and greater school. She loves the kids and her colleagues who she works alongside. Jo feels that she is very busy (but coping). She is in the process of getting his Blog up and running, reading thru job descriptions and completing various other tasks outside the classroom.
- Student achievement data:
Jo, although aware, has not had the opportunity to analyse the student’s previous results that she teaches. She recognises that this is important and will complete this task in the coming days. This will then give her goals to ensure her students achieve to their potential (or preferably above what their previous grades have been!)
- Department goals and TAI:
Jp is aware of our department TAI and has sent letters home to both her level 1 and 2 classes parents. She will continue to stay in contact with parents throughout each unit of work. To add to this, we also discussed the departments other goals relating to ‘meeting student needs’ and ‘looking at different methods of assessment’.
Jo has set herself the short term goal relating to Classroom Management. She is working on ensuring that she has routines in place of which students are familiar with during the start-up of lesson, during the lesson and at the completion.
Jo has also set herself a long-term goal relating to setting up a Personal Blog. This will require her to regularly reflect upon her teaching and enter these thoughts into her blog. Besides benefitting her personal teaching this will also be a great resource that she can use to assist her in job applications for the future.
